How to Nominate a Nonprofit
1. Look around your community for unmet needs. Talk to neighbors and friends. Which nonprofit organizations are making a difference, but need support to continue?
2. If a specific organization comes to mind, check to see that it meets our eligibility criteria:
-
Must be a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)3 of the IRS Code. Local, state and federal government entities are not eligible. The organization must hold its own 501(c)3, not under a parent organization.
-
Must have an annual budget of $1,000,000 or less.
-
Must meet the mission of GCH to create positive change in Northern Virginia by directly benefitting people in need, where “need” refers to people who have low income, are disadvantaged or are underserved.
-
Must spend the donations solely in listed service areas.
-
Must be willing to send a report or representative to a future GCH meeting to report on the impact of the donations.
-
Must agree not to publish, give or sell any members names or solicit for additional contributions.
-
May not promote a particular religious or political ideology.
-
May not have received a GCH grant in the previous *2 years.
